Pune University’s Research Students Protest Against Chhagan Bhujbal’s Controversial Statement ‘Sale PhD Wale’

Pune, 29th December 2022: Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) unit of Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) today protested against the controversial statement made by Chhagan Bhujbal against research students. Yesterday (28th December), former minister Bhujbal made a controversial comment about the research fellowship given to Mahajyoti research students.

“Fellowships given to research students are a waste of money,” he made this controversial statement in the winter session. His ‘Sale PhD Wale’ statement has been protested by research students across Maharashtra.

Bhujbal is considered a leader of the Other Backward Class (OBC) community, but it is he who has made the controversial statement about the fellowship given to OBC students; it is being condemned by all the communities.

ABVP members protested in front of the statue of Savitribai Phule by displaying a poster with strong words against the controversial statement regarding research students pursuing higher education.

West Maharashtra research coordinator Ambadas Mevankar expressed the opinion that Bhujbal has made a big mistake by making controversial statements about researchers, and he should apologize to all researchers.

Research student Saurabh Munde, who is doing research in Mahajyoti, said, “Doing research is not as easy. Corrupt people should not talk about higher education.”

They also demanded that Bhujbal should apologize to research students otherwise students across Maharashtra will protest with black flags in every city.
