Pune: Viman Nagar Citizens Forum Disappointed With Lack Of Action To Curb Sewerage Despite Multiple Complaints To Officials

Pune, 9th October 2022: Various stretches and apartments in Viman Nagar, especially the entrances of Hermes Drome, Gokul Gardens, Archana Heights and the path from Nitron Landmark to Ganga Puram, have been struggling with the issue of regularly surfacing sewage water.

The water remains stagnant, creating potholes, mixing with the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) water supply, breeding larvae, and causing accident-prone threats.

“None of the senior officers addressed has deputed anyone to visit the site to check the problem, understand or discuss and explain to us tax-paying residents facing the hardship and trauma suffered – this is evidence of complete insensitivity. This is all due to bad urban planning while using public funds and being incapable of solving issues that arise due to the increase in population,” said Qaneez Sukhrani, Convenor of Viman Nagar Citizens Forum.

According to Sukhrani, emails and complaints have been sent to Vikram Kumar, Commissioner of PMC, Dr Kunal Khemnar and Ravindra Binwade, Additional Commissioners of PMC, V.G. Kulkarni, C/E Road Dept PMC, Aniruddha Pawaskar, C/E Water Dept PMC, Santosh Tandale, S/E Sewerage Dept PMC, Dr Sanjeev Wavare, AMOH PMC, and Dr Ashish Bharati, MOH PMC since September. However, residents have not received answers or solutions.

“This is considered a Human Rights violation for not addressing the issue for the past two months. Our complaints have been very frequent, but not even one senior officer takes the trouble to call us or visit the spot personally. This is evidence of complete insensitivity to the hardship & trauma suffered by tax-paying citizens,” one of the complaints sent on 7th October 2022 stated.

The complaint also states that if the issue is not solved soon, a case will be filed with the Maharashtra Human Rights Commission and Maharashtra State Legal Services Authority.
