Viman Nagar, 27th February 2026: An on-site inspection of the Late Ravindra Galande Patil Subway on Nagar Road in Viman Nagar was conducted on Thursday by newly elected PMC Ward 3 corporator Aishwarya Surendra Pathare along with local residents to assess ground-level issues and pedestrian safety concerns.

Although traffic flow on Nagar Road has improved to some extent, the increasing volume of vehicles continues to pose serious risks for pedestrians attempting to cross the road. The subway, intended to provide a safer alternative, is currently underutilised due to multiple shortcomings observed during the inspection.

Key issues identified included poor cleanliness, inadequate lighting, absence of CCTV surveillance, lack of basic amenities, insufficient beautification, and poor visibility and signage, making the subway less noticeable and less appealing for pedestrians.

Following the inspection, immediate instructions were issued to the concerned officials of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to complete the necessary repair and improvement work at the earliest. Officials were directed to prioritise safety, hygiene and functionality to ensure the subway becomes reliable for public use.

Speaking during the visit, Aishwarya said the subway must be safe, clean and dependable for citizens. To discourage unsafe road crossings and encourage proper use of the underpass, a public awareness campaign along with a ‘Subway Adoption Drive’ will be launched soon.

The initiative aims to educate citizens on why, how and for what purpose the subway should be used, while also promoting community participation in its maintenance.
