Pune 10th August 2023: Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar in a recent meeting has instructed to complete the work of Savitribai Phule Pune University flyover on priority. However, some shocking reasons that are causing delays to the work have come to light. This includes VVIP visits to the city, G20 Summit and political instability in the state.

According to reports, the contractors and those responsible for the work have claimed that they were instructed on multiple occasions to keep their work closed following VVIP visits to the city. This includes recent visits of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. Besides, the work is stopped whenever any VVIP is scheduled to halt at the governor house which is located near the work site.

The reports also claim that the work was delayed during the G 20 summit meetings held in the city when major construction works were stopped. The work was also stopped on the day when Palkhi procession passed from the city. These are some reasons which according to the concerned officials have added to the delay in the work. Some of the works such as removal of road crossing, widening of the footpath, making an arrangement of alternate routes for commuters are expected to be done by the municipal corporation officials which have also added to the problem.

According to officials, the concerned officials have been given time to complete the work before November 2024. However, DCM Ajit Pawar in a recent meeting insisted on completing it before September 2024.
