Pune: Wagholi Resident Conned of 22 Lakh Rupees in Social Media Relationship

Pune, 28th October 2023: A case has been registered at Lonikand Police Station against a young woman and two accomplices for allegedly defrauding a 30-year-old man of 22 lakh rupees.

The accused have been identified as Gayathri and Jai Bhagwan Rokade, hailing from Sangamner in Ahmednagar district. The complaint was filed by the victim at Lonikand Police Station.

The complainant, residing in Wagholi on Nagar Road, initiated contact with Gayathri through social media. What started as casual communication escalated when the young woman proposed marriage. Seizing the opportunity, she disclosed financial troubles, claiming family problems and medical emergencies involving her relatives.

Exploiting the victim’s empathy, the accused systematically extorted a substantial sum of 22 lakh rupees from him through repeated online transactions. As financial strain mounted on the young man, he pleaded with her to return a portion of the amount. However, he was met with a sudden and complete cutoff—Gayathri’s mobile number became inaccessible.

Upon discovering the deception, the victim promptly lodged a complaint with Lonikand Police Station, prompting an investigation into the alleged online fraud.
