Wagholi, 16th May 2025: More than seven years after moving into their flats, residents of Mayuri Tarangan Society on Wagholi-Lohgaon Road are still struggling without essential infrastructure, raising serious concerns about safety and builder accountability.

Home to over 200 people across 80 flats in two seven-storey buildings, the society continues to lack functional elevators, fire safety systems, a stable water supply, and a working sewage treatment plant (STP). The long-standing infrastructure issues were further highlighted recently when a portion of the lift room on the seventh floor collapsed during the night. Thankfully, no one was injured, but the incident has intensified fears about the structural integrity of the building.

Safety and Access Concerns
Despite being handed possession in 2018, residents say key facilities like lifts have never been operational. With no fire safety systems or dedicated power transformers installed, senior citizens, children, and people with disabilities are especially impacted. Residents also reported that several drainage chambers are still uncovered, posing an imminent hazard — particularly during the upcoming monsoon season.

“This is not just about convenience anymore — it’s about survival and safety,” said a resident on condition of anonymity. “We were promised a safe and well-equipped home, but all we have are empty assurances and broken promises.”

Builder Accused of Delay and Negligence
According to residents, the builder had initially sought an extension till 2021 to complete all promised amenities. However, as of mid-2025, most of those commitments remain unfulfilled. Recreational spaces, fire systems, and essential utility infrastructure have yet to be delivered.

The recent collapse of the lift room structure has intensified accusations of poor construction quality and negligence on the part of the developer.

Community Steps Up

The Wagholi Against Corruption Organization (WACO) has formally taken up the issue with the builder. In a letter submitted this week, WACO has demanded:

Immediate completion of all basic amenities including lifts, STP, WTP, electrical supply, and internal roads
A concrete timeline for execution
Access to legal documents and project compliance reports
Residents have also issued a warning: if there is no progress within seven days, they will pursue legal action against the builder.

Civic Authorities Silent
Repeated attempts to contact officials from the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) for a response have gone unanswered. Residents argue that the lack of government oversight is enabling such situations to persist unchecked.
