Wakad, 26th April 2025: Taking a major step towards energy independence and environmental sustainability, Kalpataru Harmony Cooperative Housing Society (CHS) inaugurated a 200 kW rooftop solar power plant on Saturday. Located in Wakad, the society houses 479 flats and over 1,400 residents.

Chinchwad MLA Shankarbhau Jagtap inaugurated the solar project in the presence of former corporator Sandeep Anna Kaspate, Ganesh Kaspate, Prasad Kaspate, Ramdas Kaspate, Sunil Kaspate, and Arvind Barne. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from residents, members of the society’s management committee, and the solar sub-committee.

Speaking at the inauguration, MLA Jagtap lauded Kalpataru Harmony CHS for its proactive environmental initiatives. He congratulated the managing committee and residents for setting a positive example through various eco-friendly projects.

One of the Largest Residential Solar Projects in PCMC
Implemented in collaboration with Solar Square Energy Private Limited, the project is among the largest rooftop solar installations for a residential society in the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) area. The system features 371 high-efficiency half-cut bifacial solar panels, each with a capacity of 540 watts.

Key Highlights of the Solar Project:
Installed Capacity: 200 kW
Number of Panels: 371 (Premier Make – Half Cut Bifacial 540Wp)
Total Project Cost: Rs 1.2 crore
Expected Annual Savings on Energy Bills: Approximately Rs 48 lakh
Estimated Annual CO₂ Emission Reduction: Around 435 metric tons

The society initiated the project in April 2024, starting with feasibility studies, budgeting, and vendor evaluations. Installation began in September 2024 and was completed successfully in April 2025. Financial support through the Central Financial Assistance (CFA) from the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) under the Grid Connected Rooftop Solar Program significantly contributed to the project’s viability.

Continued Commitment to Sustainability
Kalpataru Harmony CHS has consistently demonstrated leadership in sustainability efforts. In March 2025, the society was awarded first place as a “Green Ambassador” by the Swarnalata Motherson Trust and the Indian Pollution Control Association for the successful implementation of Project S.O.R.T (Segregation, Recycling, and Processing of Waste).

Beyond solar energy, the society is also renovating its 300 KLD capacity sewage treatment plant (STP) to boost water recycling efficiency and enhance health and safety standards.
