Pune, 2nd May 2025: Wanawadi Police Station has taken action against a landlord for failing to inform the police about his tenants, as mandated under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).

This move comes after Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar reinforced the importance of reporting tenant and employee details as a precautionary measure for public safety.

The action follows a citywide directive under Section 163(3) of the BNSS, which makes it compulsory for landlords and private employers to share details of tenants and employees with the local police. “This rule is not just a formality; it is a security measure intended to prevent unlawful activities and ensure community safety,” said Senior Police Inspector Satyajit Admane of Wanawadi Police Station.

Acting on the instructions from senior officials, a police team conducted visits to lodges, hotels, tourist areas, and densely populated localities in the Wanawadi jurisdiction to verify compliance. During the inspection, police found that Mahadev Mallanna Saware (48), a resident of Vaiduwadi, Hadapsar, had housed tenants but had not submitted their details to the police as required.

Upon questioning, Saware admitted to not notifying authorities. Consequently, a case has been registered against him under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Wanawadi Police Station.

“This is a clear violation, and legal action has been initiated. We urge all landlords and private employers to comply with the law to avoid similar consequences,” Inspector Admane stated.

The operation was carried out under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 5) Dr. Rajkumar Shinde and ACP (Wanawadi Division) Dhanyakumar Ghodse. The ground team included PSI Sapna Solanke, police staff Jotiba Kurale, Pradeep Garje, Utreshwar Dhas, and Pardhi.
