Wanowrie, 28th March 2024: A case of fraudulent activity, involving the swindling of Rs 11 lakh from a woman under false promises of lucrative returns through online tasks, has been brought to light. The Wanowrie Police have initiated an investigation into this matter.

The victim, a 34-year-old woman, lodged a complaint at the Wanowrie Police Station detailing her ordeal. According to the police, the perpetrators, operating through cyberspace, initially contacted the woman via her mobile phone. They enticed her with advertisements on online platforms promising substantial returns for completing tasks.

Upon the woman’s engagement in online activities, the fraudsters provided her with a nominal refund, thereby gaining her trust. Leveraging this trust, they then persuaded her to invest further funds into the purported online task business.

Over the last six months, the perpetrators coerced the woman into transferring a sum totalling Rs 11 lakh 13 thousand into their account. Despite her compliance, the promised returns failed to materialize, prompting the woman to approach the police and file a formal complaint regarding the fraudulent scheme.
