Baner, 7th January 2026: On the occasion of the birthday of BJP’s official candidate from Ward No. 9, Lahu Gajanan Balwadkar, Maharashtra Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule announced a series of major development initiatives for the ward, drawing political attention ahead of the upcoming civic elections.

Speaking at the event, Bawankule outlined a roadmap for the planned and comprehensive development of Ward No. 9. Key announcements included final approval for the Mahalunge Town Planning (TP) Scheme, acceleration of the Shivajinagar–Hinjawadi Metro project, and a permanent water supply arrangement for Pune city from the Mulshi dam. These projects are seen as long-term interventions aimed at improving infrastructure and civic amenities in the area.

The minister also announced that the Pune–Katraj service road would be upgraded to a cement concrete road. The move is expected to provide a lasting solution to traffic congestion, frequent accidents, and poor road conditions. Officials said these decisions are likely to significantly boost the pace of development in Ward No. 9.

Meanwhile, a felicitation programme organised at Mauli Garden in Baner to mark Balwadkar’s birthday assumed political significance due to the presence of senior BJP leaders, including Cabinet Minister Chandrakant Patil and Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule. Political observers noted that the event, held in the backdrop of the forthcoming civic polls, was seen as a show of strength, with a large turnout of party workers and supporters from Baner and surrounding areas.

Reacting to the announcements, Balwadkar said the development plan unveiled on his birthday was the biggest gift for the ward. “The development roadmap announced by Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule for Ward No. 9 is a blessing for me. This is not a personal honour but a firm commitment towards the development of every citizen in the ward,” he said.

He added that major projects such as the Mahalunge TP Scheme, Shivajinagar–Hinjawadi Metro, water supply from Mulshi dam, and the Pune–Katraj service road would bring visible change to the area. “I sincerely thank Minister Bawankule for these decisive announcements. Under the development-oriented leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, I will continue to work with greater dedication, honesty and responsibility for the all-round progress of the ward. The trust of citizens is my real strength,” Balwadkar said.
