Katraj, 19th October 2023: Residents of Katraj are grappling with a water shortage just as the Navratri festival is in full swing. A technical fault in a pump at the pumping station near Rajiv Gandhi Zoo has led to a two-day disruption in water supply. Local authorities are working on urgent repairs but the situation has already caused considerable distress among citizens.

The malfunction has hit multiple residential areas hard, including Sukhsagar Nagar Part 1, Part 2 Rajas Society, Shivashambhonagar Galli No. 1,2,3, Sainagar, Shelarmala, Sukhda Varda Complex, Chaitrangan, Sukhnivas, Hami Park, Ideal Park, and Pawan Park.

Already irritated by continuous low-pressure water supply, residents now have to cope with a complete water cut. With Navratri celebrations ongoing, the timing of this utility failure has exacerbated frustrations. Citizens complained about the lack of advance warning, which could have allowed them to make alternative arrangements.

Nitin Khude, Deputy Engineer of the Water Supply Department, acknowledged the issue, stating, “The water supply was disrupted due to pump failure. We have repaired the pump on a war footing from the electrical department. We are trying to restore water supply as soon as possible.”

Residents are particularly aggrieved by the poor communication from authorities. Calls to the water release staff went unanswered, as phones were switched off, leaving citizens in the lurch.
