Pune Water Crisis: Over 1,000 Complaints of Disrupted Supply in Just Five Days
Reported by Mubarak Ansari
Pune, 23rd June 2026: More than 1,000 complaints regarding disrupted water supply were registered with the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) between June 15 and June 19, officials from the water supply department said on Monday.
Out of these, 437 complaints have been resolved, while 692 cases are still pending and are expected to be addressed within the next two days, according to Water Supply Department head Nandkishor Jagtap.
Officials said complaints were received from all water distribution centres across the city, with the highest number reported under the Lashkar and SNDT water supply divisions.
The affected areas include large parts of the city such as Raviwar Peth, Ganesh Peth, Somwar Peth, Sadashiv Peth, Narayan Peth, Navi Peth, Laxminagar, Sutardara, Kothrud, Ghole Road, Someshwarwadi, Khadki, Shirole Path, Baner, Warje, Karvenagar, Bopodi, Gandhinagar, Phulenagar, Nagpur Chawl, Kalas, Dhanori, Lohgaon, Kharadi, Wagholi, Viman Nagar, Kalyani Nagar, and Vadgaon Sheri.
Meanwhile, the civic body is struggling to carry out enforcement action against illegal water usage, including at car washing centres and construction sites, due to the high volume of complaint redressal work. Officials said staff from the water supply department are currently fully engaged in resolving supply-related complaints, leaving little time for inspections.
As a result, the department has sought assistance from health department personnel, and flying squads have been deployed through ward offices to monitor violations. However, officials confirmed that no penalties have been imposed so far, raising questions about enforcement effectiveness and the department’s capacity to carry out routine inspections alongside complaint resolution.
