Pune Water Crisis: PMC to Open New Tanker Filling Points in Undri and Bavdhan
Pune, 22nd June 2026: With complaints related to water supply increasing after the implementation of alternate-day water distribution in the city, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has decided to set up two new water tanker filling points in Undri and Bavdhan to meet the growing demand.
According to PMC officials, demand for tanker water has increased by an average of 200 trips per day following the water cuts. To address the situation and improve water supply logistics, new tanker filling points will be established near the water reservoir at Dorabjee Mall in Undri and at a designated site in Bavdhan.
The decision was taken during a review meeting chaired by Additional Municipal Commissioner Pavneet Kaur on Saturday. The meeting reviewed complaints received by the Water Supply Department after the introduction of alternate-day water supply across the city.
Officials have been instructed to expedite the establishment of the two new tanker points and ensure that citizens’ water-related grievances are addressed promptly.
At present, PMC operates tanker filling points at Parvati, Padmavati, Ramtekdi, Erandwane, Vadgaonsheri, Pashan, Yerawada, Chatushrungi and Dhayari. However, residents in Hadapsar and adjoining areas are receiving tanker water from Ramtekdi and Parvati centres, forcing tankers to travel an additional 10 to 20 kilometres per trip. Similarly, water tankers serving Bavdhan and Warje currently depend on the Pashan and Chatushrungi filling stations.
Officials believe that dedicated tanker points in Undri and Bavdhan will significantly reduce travel time, improve operational efficiency and ensure quicker water delivery to affected localities.
The civic administration has also noted a rise in complaints from areas located at the tail end of the water distribution network, where water is either reaching at low pressure or for a very short duration. Many residents have reported receiving water for only 10 to 15 minutes during supply hours.
To address these concerns, Additional Commissioner Kaur directed officials to revise water distribution schedules and operational planning to ensure adequate supply reaches low-pressure and tail-end areas.
PMC officials said the new tanker points are expected to provide relief to residents facing water shortages until normal supply conditions are restored.
