Shirur, 8th April 2026: A 37-year-old woman has been left permanently paralysed after a fall from a water slide at a water park in Shirur taluka of Pune district, raising serious concerns over safety standards at such tourist facilities.

Based on a complaint filed by Kiran Napte, Shirur police have registered a case against the owner and manager of the tourism centre for negligence and endangering lives.

The incident occurred at Jay Malhar Agro Tourism Centre in Morachi Chincholi, a popular tourist destination. Police said the woman, identified as Ashwini Sandeep Napte, a resident of Karandi village, had visited the park with her family for an outing.

According to the complaint, Napte was using a water slide when she fell and hit the ground after landing in a section where the water level was allegedly too low. The impact left her unconscious on the spot. Doctors later found that she had suffered severe spinal injuries, with four vertebrae fractured, leading to paralysis below the waist.

Family members alleged that there were no adequate safety measures in place at the water park. They also claimed that no immediate medical assistance or ambulance facility was available at the site. The injured woman had to be shifted to a hospital in a privately arranged ambulance.

The incident has once again brought the issue of safety at water parks into focus, especially during the summer season when such destinations witness heavy footfall.
