Pune, 30 March 2021: The Canal Advisory Committee’s recent meeting has decided that the water supply will not be reduced in Pune city. The committee will also arrange a discussion on the last Friday of every month to review water availability in the four dams of the Khadakwasla dam chain project.

A meeting of the Canal Advisory Committee was held at the Government Rest House in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister of the state and Guardian Minister Ajit Pawar. As the Water Resources Department has already taken water from the right canal for agriculture in the rural areas, the discussion was held regarding undertaking the second summer cycle.

In the meeting, the Water Resources Department officials said that as the city will get 2.64 TMC of water from Bhama Askhed Dam, the water supply from Khadakwasla Dam will be reduced.

However, the Municipal Corporation objected to this and said there was no need for a water cut as there was sufficient water storage in Khadakwasla Dam Chain Project.

MLA Siddharth Shirole said, “The dams have adequate water reserves, and the city needs water as people are at homes most of the time due to the corona pandemic.”

He also instructed the meeting to take a serious look at every aspect while presenting the budget and reviewing the availability and use of water every month for water planning.

Deputy Chief Minister Pawar has announced to hold a meeting on the last Friday of every month for water review.
