Pune Weather Alert: Cloudy Skies And Light Rain Expected Due To Cyclone Fengal Impact
Pune, 2nd December 2024: The city and surrounding areas have experienced a shift in weather patterns as the cold wave subsided due to the impact of Cyclone Fengal. After several days of dropping temperatures, the city has seen a significant rise in mercury levels, accompanied by cloudy skies. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has also forecast light rain in the coming days.
Over the past week, Pune experienced a dry and chilly spell caused by reduced humidity and cold winds from the north. The minimum temperature had dropped to 8-9 degrees Celsius in areas like Pashan and Shivajinagar, intensifying the cold. However, the emergence of Cyclone Fengal in the Bay of Bengal has disrupted the weather pattern. The cyclone has increased humidity levels, leading to warmer nights.
According to IMD data, Pune recorded a minimum temperature of 13.3 degrees Celsius on Sunday, which rose to 17.4 degrees Celsius by Monday. This reflects a 7-degree increase in just two days.
Senior meteorologist Anupam Kashyapi explained, “The rise in humidity due to Cyclone Fengal has led to an increase in minimum temperatures, reducing the cold. This condition is expected to persist for the next two to three days. However, once the cyclone weakens, temperatures may drop again, and the cold conditions could return.”
The IMD has predicted that cloudy conditions will prevail over Pune until December 8. Light to very light rain is also expected on December 5 and 6, further contributing to the changing weather.
Residents are advised to prepare for fluctuating weather conditions as the city transitions from the current warm spell back to colder days later in the week.
