Pune, 30th April 2026: The city continues to experience elevated temperatures, although conditions remain below official heatwave thresholds. After a spell of persistent summer heat, a slight dip in temperatures is expected in the coming days, offering limited relief to residents.

Over the past two days, Pune has recorded maximum temperatures of around 39°C, indicating sustained warm conditions. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), temperatures are likely to decrease by 1–2°C during the first week of May. While this marginal drop may provide some relief, daytime conditions are expected to remain warm, with partly cloudy skies at isolated locations.

Across Maharashtra, temperatures have begun to show a gradual decline after reaching peak summer highs. Meteorological factors, including a cyclonic circulation over the region and a trough extending from north Karnataka to the Gulf of Mannar, are influencing the current weather pattern and contributing to the expected moderation.

Despite the easing trend, several parts of the state continue to record high temperatures. In the 24 hours ending Wednesday morning, Akola and Amravati reported 45.2°C, while Wardha recorded 45°C. Districts such as Dhule, Jalgaon, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Nagpur and Yavatmal have also recorded temperatures above 44°C.

Weather officials said maximum temperatures across the state may fall by 2–3°C over the next four to five days. However, warm conditions are likely to persist, particularly during the afternoon hours.

The recent rise in temperatures, ranging between 37°C and 40°C, has started to impact agriculture. Fruit crops such as mango and cashew have been affected, with reports of increased fruit drop and heat damage. Farmers are taking preventive measures, including regular watering, to minimise losses.

The Alphonso mango season is nearing its end, with harvesting and market supply currently underway. However, higher temperatures have affected fruit quality in some areas during the final phase of the season.

Overall, while Pune is not experiencing heatwave conditions, the city remains under typical summer heat, with only a slight and gradual reduction in temperatures expected in the coming days.
