Pune, 14th July 2025: After a relatively dry spell last week, Pune and its surrounding ghat areas may witness a slight uptick in rainfall activity over the coming days, according to the latest forecast by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). A yellow alert has been issued for the ghat sections of Pune district for Monday, signaling the likelihood of moderate showers.

Weather experts at the IMD attribute this expected increase in rainfall to the development of multiple atmospheric systems across the country.
“There is currently a cyclonic circulation at the upper atmospheric level over the Bay of Bengal. A low-pressure zone is expected to form over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal areas of Odisha and West Bengal within the next 24 hours,” said a senior IMD official. “Another upper air cyclonic system is present over northern Madhya Pradesh and nearby regions, which is expected to generate a separate low-pressure area in that region as well.”

Despite these developments, rainfall across Pune’s ghat areas remained subdued over the weekend. Between Saturday evening and Sunday evening, locations such as Tamhini received 56 mm of rain, Shirgaon recorded 40 mm, Kuruvande got 11.5 mm, while Lonavla and Bhor saw just 8 mm and 16.5 mm respectively. In contrast, key areas within Pune city—including Shivajinagar, Pashan, Lavale, Magarpatta, Lohegaon, Chinchwad, and NDA—did not receive any measurable rainfall during this period. Koregaon Park reported a minimal 2.5 mm.

Elsewhere in Maharashtra, the IMD has issued yellow alerts for districts including Nashik, Dhule, Palghar, Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Satara, Kolhapur, and Sindhudurg.

“Scattered heavy rainfall is likely in parts of Konkan and Goa, ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra, and regions of Saurashtra and Kutch on July 14,” the IMD official added. “The Gujarat region is expected to receive significant downpours between July 13 and 16, with very heavy rainfall forecasted on July 14.”
