Pune Witnesses Decline In Births, Deliveries Post-Pandemic

Pune, 18th January 2023: According to medical experts, Pune, which was the most severely impacted by the pandemic, saw a large decline in birth registrations as a result of the viral outbreak.
The first and second waves of the epidemic are likely to blame for the drop. At its most fundamental, this decline was caused by the emigration of the migrant population and the relocation of working professionals. Indirect factors that may have contributed to couples’ decisions to delay pregnancies include social isolation policies, virus-related anxieties, and ensuing social and economic problems.
The pandemic lockdown, the migrant workers’ repatriation to their home states, and the city’s failure to entice them back after nearly two years are the causes, according to Dr Sanjeev Wavare, assistant health chief of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). Authorities also believe that most women preferred to return to their hometowns for deliveries, thus decreasing the number.
