Pune: Woman Cheated Of Nearly Rs Four Lakh Due To Online Friendship With Unknown Man

Pune, 4th October 2022: It has come to light that a thief pretending to be a doctor in a foreign country cheated a woman of Rs 3,25,000 on the lure of sending a gift.

The Yerwada police station has registered a case under the Information Technology Act against cyber thieves.

A 33-year-old woman has filed a complaint in this regard. A stranger sent a friend request to the complainant through social media. The woman accepted the request. After that, they both started chatting with each other.

The thief pretended to be a doctor in a foreign country by stating his name as Oscar Harry. The thief then lured the woman into sending gifts from abroad. The thief pretended that the goods have been sent to the airport and that the tax has to be paid to the customs department.

The woman was then asked to deposit the money in a bank account. The woman deposited Rs 3,25,000 thousand in the bank account. After depositing the money, the woman became suspicious as the money was demanded again.

She complained to the police. Senior Police Inspector Uttam Chakre is investigating the case further.
