Pune: Woman Dead, Man Injured in Gangadham Chowk Truck Accident; Driver Detained

Market Yard, 11th June 2025: A tragic road accident occurred at Gangadham Chowk under the jurisdiction of Market Yard Police Station around 11:15 AM today, resulting in the death of a 29-year-old woman and injuries to a 61-year-old man.

According to the police, a speeding truck (registration number MH 14 AS 8852) struck a scooter that was proceeding through the junction after the signal turned green. The scooter was being ridden by Jagdish Pannalal Soni (61), with Dipali Yuvraj Soni (29) riding pillion. The impact threw both to the ground, killing Dipali Soni on the spot, while Jagdish Soni sustained injuries.

“The injured person was immediately shifted to Spiral Hospital, Gangadham Chowk, where he is currently under medical care and reported to be in stable condition,” said Police Inspector Manisha Patil of Market Yard Police Station.

The truck has been seized, and the driver, identified as Shaukat Ali Papalal Kulkundi (51), a resident of Bhawani Peth, Pune, has been taken into custody. His medical examination is currently underway.

A case has been registered under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Section 105, which corresponds to Section 304 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) (culpable homicide not amounting to murder).

“There is no disruption to traffic movement at present and law and order remain under control,” added PI Patil. “To prevent such incidents in the future, we are coordinating with the Traffic Police and Pune Municipal Corporation to initiate appropriate measures.”
