Pune: Women Cursed As Witch, Stripped In Baramati Taluka

Baramati, 26th October 2021: Two decades into the 21st century, yet dowry problem in India has not been completely eradicated from India.

A 40-year-old woman from Karnjiphule of Baramati taluka has been the victim of dowry and harassment at the hands of in-laws. The victim married in 1994 was living together with her in-laws. However, despite being a wife of a banker, she has been facing harassment from her mother-in-law, two-brother-in-law and sister-in-law.

Recently, terming her witch the mother-in-law and brother-in-law called up a person who is an expert in black magic. The victim was stripped off and the people around her tried to kill her. Her cries attracted the attention of the neighbours who came to rescue her.

The victim lodged a complaint with the Baramati police station. In her complaint, she said that she was threatened to be killed if she opens her mouth before her husband or son. She said her in-laws used to harass her, make her go hungry, do unnatural things among others. She was thrown out of the house when she gave birth to a girl child.

On October 15, her in-laws called up the ‘Mantrik’, stripped her and tried to kill her. Her in-laws include Mahendra Manikrao Gaikwad, Rajendra Manikrao Gaikwad, Kaushalya Manikrao Gaikwad, Neeta Anil Jadhav.

Police have registered a case against all of them under various sections of the Maharashtra Prevention and Eradication of Human Sacrifice and other Inhuman, Evil and Aghori Practices and Black Magic Act.
