Pune, June 24, 2021: The District Court at Shivajinagar will resume its work in a single shift as per the directions of the Mumbai High Court due to a change in the level of exemption from the Covid Restriction. Lawyers and parties have expressed displeasure over the decision to reduce the working hours again within a week.

From Wednesday (23rd) court proceedings will continue from 11 am to 2 pm. During this period, the judge will be present and 50 percent of the staff will be present, according to a circular issued by Chief District Judge Neeraj Dhote.

Due to the declining number of Covid patients, it was decided to keep the courts open at full capacity from June 15. Accordingly, its work continued till Tuesday (22nd). Due to the reduced court time, regular hearings are likely to get further dates. There will be hearings on important cases. Therefore, the number of pending claims will increase; the parties and advocates have expressed fears.

The number of Covid positive patients is changing every day. The number of pending claims has increased due to the closure of operations. Also, many lawyers are in financial trouble. Therefore, it is not appropriate to continue the court in one session, the Pune Bar Association has told Chief District Judge Neeraj Dhote. However, as per the guidelines of the High Court, it has been decided to continue the court once and for all.
