Hinjawadi, 21st November 2025: The alarming rise in heavy-vehicle accidents in the Hinjawadi area continued on Friday afternoon, claiming the life of a 19-year-old girl student and leaving a 20-year-old youth seriously injured. The duo was returning from a visit to Kasarsai Dam when a speeding concrete mixer rammed their two-wheeler at Shindevasti in Marunji around 1.45 pm.

The deceased has been identified as Rida Imran Khan, a resident of Viman Nagar, while the injured youth, Vivek Thakur from Ghorpadi, is undergoing treatment at a private hospital. Police have arrested the mixer driver, Ajmal Akhtar Ansari, 32, of Jambe.

Senior Police Inspector Balaji Pandhare of Hinjawadi Police Station (Pimpri Chinchwad police) said Rida was a first-year BCA student at a college in Pune Camp. She, Vivek and their college friends had gone to Kasarsai Dam for a morning outing on two-wheelers. While returning, the speeding mixer allegedly hit Vivek’s motorcycle, causing Rida to fall and get crushed under the vehicle’s rear wheel. She died on the spot, while Vivek sustained severe injuries. Hinjawadi police are conducting further investigation.

Six Women, Including a Child, Killed in Ten Months
Despite a ban on the movement of heavy vehicles during peak hours in Hinjewadi, violations remain rampant, leading to a series of fatal accidents. In the last ten months, six females — including an 11-year-old girl — have lost their lives in mishaps involving heavy vehicles.

On January 24, two students, Pranjali Yadav (22) and Ashlesha Gawande (22), were crushed to death when a speeding readymix dumper overturned near Vadjainagar corner on Hinjawadi–Maan Road.

On August 12, 11-year-old Pratyusha Borate died after being hit by a mixer near Infosys in Hinjawadi Phase 2.

On October 10, Bharti Rajesh Mishra (30) from Thergaon was killed after a cement mixer knocked down her two-wheeler at Pandavnagar on Maan Road.

On November 17, Tanvi Siddheshwar Sakhra (20) died when a dumper hit the two-wheeler she was riding pillion with her father.

Friday’s incident, which claimed the life of Rida Imran Khan, has once again highlighted the persistent danger posed by reckless heavy vehicle movement in the IT hub, prompting renewed calls for stricter enforcement and monitoring.
