Pune: Young Man, Woman Drowned In Khadakwasla Dam Backwater
Pune, 21st December 2022: A young man and a young woman drowned in the catchment area of Khadakwasla dam in Sonapur village bordering Pune-Panshet road.
Haveli police have reached the spot and both bodies have been taken out of the water. The bodies have not yet been identified.
A local resident has set up a food stall on the Pune-Panshet road within the limits of Sonapur village. That vendor only sells food at this location on weekends or other holidays. This morning while he was passing by the shop, he saw a bike on the side of the road. Seeing no one around, he looked further towards the water of the dam and saw a sag floating on the water. On closer inspection, the seller saw a dead body floating on the water. He immediately gave this information to the Haveli police station.
Police Sub-Inspector Rutuja Mohite and Police Constable Pravin Takwane reached the spot on the instructions of Police Inspector Sadashiv Shelar of Haveli Police Station. With the help of ambulance driver Anil Kamble and other locals, the bodies of both the young man and the young woman were taken out of the water.
The identity of the dead bodies is yet to be ascertained, but from the number of the two-wheeler, police constable Pravin Takwane has predicted that one of the two may be from Vadgaon Budruk on Sinhagad road. Also, the name Priyanka Chaugule is written on the notebook in the girl’s bag. Further investigation is being taken by the Haveli police in this regard.
Adjacent to the catchment area of Khadakwasla dam is Pune-Panshet road on one side and NDA to Varasgaon road on the other side. As there is no fence or protective wall on either side, many young men and women get into the water of the dam. Since there is no estimate of the depth of the water and there is no one to stop people from going into the water, so far many people have drowned in the Khadakwasla dam. No measures have been planned yet to prevent such mishaps by the Irrigation Department, and Police Administration departments.
