Pune: Youth Abducted By Friends To Demand Extortion From Family, Rescued By Police

Pune 8th July 2023: The Anti-Extortion Cell of Pune City Police has rescued a youth from a lodge in the city after he was abducted by his friends to demand money from his family. According to police, the victim was abducted from Panvel and was taken to various lodges in Pune between June 29 and July 6.

The accused also called his father and demanded Rs 2.5 lakh to release him. The city police following inputs raided a lodge and two accused identifed as Abhijeet Thorat (20) and Nikhil Ramesh Kamble (31) were arrested. The police have also detained a minor boy in the case.

According to police, the accused had paid Rs 2.5 lakh to Rs 3 lakh to a person known to victim to get job. However, the accused later realised that he has been cheated as he was not offered job and money was also not returned. After getting no response on refund or job, the accused abducted the victim from Panvel and asked him to refund their money on behalf of the person whom the money was paid. He was brutally assaulted and kept locked in the lodge by the accused.

A case in this regard has been registered at Sahkarnagar Police Station under sections 364 (a), 386, 367, 323 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Further investigation in the matter is underway.
