Pune: Youth Went To Meet Relative At Sassoon Hospital, Found It Ideal Spot For Stealing Two-Wheelers

Camp, 22 November 2021: Bundgarden police station officials have arrested a two-wheeler thief and recovered 13 stolen vehicles. 

Police searched more than 200 CCTV footage to track down the thief. After that, he was arrested from Banwadi village in Satara district after extracting confidential information, informed Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Sagar Patil in a press conference. ACP Chandrakant Sangle and Police Inspector (Crime) Ashwini Satpute were also present on the occasion. 

The arrested person has been identified as Akhtar Chand Mujawar (44), a resident of Banwadi, Koregaon, Satara. Bundgarden police station officials were investigating the theft of some two-wheelers from outside Sassoon Hospital. After inspecting more than 200 CCTVs footage, the police got the picture of the accused in many footage. 

During the investigation, policemen Sudhir Ghotkule and Sagar Ghorpade came to know that the thief was from Banwadi village in Satara. The team immediately rushed to the spot and arrested Mujawar. During interrogation, he confessed to stealing six two-wheelers from the Sassoon hospital area and seven two-wheelers from Hadapsar, Swargate, Nigdi and Satara.

Accused Mujawar worked as a centring worker. He lost his job in the lockdown. Then in August 2021, he came to visit a relative who was admitted to Sassoon Hospital. At that time, he thought that he might steal a bike from the area. He then stole six two-wheelers from near Sassoon Hospital in just four months. However, he could not sale the vehicles because of lack of documents, DCP Patil said.

The investigation team included Senior Inspector Yashwant Gawari, Sub-Inspector Rahul Pawar, and police personnel Mohan Kale, Feroz Sheikh, Harish More, Pratap Gaikwad, Sudhir Ghotkule, Anil Kusalkar, Sanjay Vanve, Sagar Ghorpade and Kiran Talekar.
