Pune, 10th April 2021: Pune Zilla Parishad (ZP) will be buying the Remdesivir injections for the treatment of the rural Covid-19 positive patients to help them overcome the disease along with to impede their financial exploitation, said ZP health committee chairperson Pramod Kakade.

Kakade said, “ZP will buy these injections through its own funds and Rs one crore will be made available for it. These injections will be available at all primary health centres in the district and the needy patients can buy it in for its original price”.

As the news of the shortage of Remdesivir flashed in the urban areas, rural patients too found it difficult to buy the medicine. The black marketing of the injection has further fuelled the demand. To stop the financial exploitation of rural people BJP group leader Sharad Butte had demanded to make the medicine available to the rural patients.

Accordingly, ZP took the decision to make it available for rural patients. ZP president Nirmala Pansare has directed CEO Ayush Prasad to procure the medicine. Pansare and Kakade met district collector Dr Rajesh Deshmukh who also accorded the decision.
