Pune: Zomato, Swiggy Delivery Boys Among 3 Arrested For Snatching Gold Chains

Hadapsar, 23rd June 2021: Three persons including Zomato and Swiggy food delivery boys have been arrested by Pune city police allegedly for snatching gold chains. Police said that the accused used to keep watch on women and then snatch away their gold chains.

The arrested persons have been identified as Zomato delivery person Akash Siddhaling Jadhav (23) of Shinde Vasti in Hadapsar, Swiggy delivery person Vijay Jagannath Posa (22) of Kharadi and Sahil Anil Gaikwad (22) of Savarkhed in Solapur. Gaikwad worked as a housekeeping staff with a gym in Solapur. They are all friends from the Solapur district.

According to police, around 1 pm on June 16 the gold chain of a 60-year-old woman was snatched near Nirmal Township in the Kalepadal area of Hadapsar. The robbers were on a two-wheeler. A case of robbery was registered in this regard.

While investigating the case, three accused were seen following the elderly woman and two of them snatched her chain. CCTV footage showed that the two-wheeler had a Zomato delivery bag.

Accordingly, on the instructions of Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 5) Namrata Patil, a search was launched for those who were sent for delivery by Zomato. After scanning footage of over 500 CCTVs, the police concluded that the accused had gone to Chandan Nagar. Meanwhile, policemen Prashant Dudhal and Nikhil Pawar got information about the accused and they were nabbed in the Shewalewadi area on June 21. Police said that they had also snatched a chain in Chandan Nagar.

The investigation was conducted under the guidance of Additional Commissioner of Police (East Region) Namdev Chavan, DCP Namrata Patil, ACP (Hadapsar division) Kalyanrao Vidhate and Senior Police Inspector Balkrishna Kadam, in-charge of Hadapsar police station.

The investigation team included Police Inspector (crime) Digambar Shinde, Assistant Police Inspector Hanumant Gaikwad, Police Sub-Inspector Saurabh Mane and police personnel Pradip Sonawane, Pratap Gaikwad, Ganesh Kshirsagar, Avinash Gosavi, Sandeep Rathod, Sameer Pandule, Shahid Sheikh, Akbar Sheikh, Shashikant Nale, Sachin Jadhav, Prashant Dudhal, Nikhil Pawar and Prashant Tonpe.
