Pune, 27th January 2026: In a vibrant celebration of heritage, unity, and cultural pride, the Assamese Association of Pune, BORLUIT, marked this year’s Bhogali Bihu with the largest-ever gathering of the Assamese community in the city. Held on January 17, the event witnessed an overwhelming participation of more than 650 community members, making it a landmark cultural occasion for Assamese families residing in Pune and surrounding regions.
The evening reflected not only the warmth of Assam’s traditions but also the spirit of togetherness that Pune has come to represent as a welcoming home for diverse communities.
A Celebration of Tradition, Identity, and Togetherness – Bhogali Bihu, also known as the festival of harvest and gratitude, was celebrated with great enthusiasm through cultural performances, community interactions, and traditional festivities. Families, youth, and elders came together to relive the essence of Assam’s rich cultural roots while celebrating the growing strength of the diaspora in Maharashtra.
A Heartfelt Tribute to Zubeen Garg – One of the prime emotional highlights of the evening was a special tribute to the late Assamese cultural icon Zubeen Garg. His timeless music continues to inspire generations, and the tribute segment created a moving atmosphere of remembrance, pride, and collective emotion among attendees.
Honouring Emerging Achievers from Pune- The celebration also served as a platform to recognize and felicitate talented individuals from the Assamese community in Pune who have excelled in various fields at the state, national, and international levels. BORLUIT reaffirmed its commitment to encouraging excellence, youth leadership, and cultural continuity beyond geographical boundaries.
Building Bridges Between Assam and Maharashtra – Beyond festivities, BORLUIT emphasized its broader vision of fostering deeper cultural connections with Maharashtra — the community’s home away from home. Highlighting the many shared values between Assam and Maharashtra, including vibrant festival traditions, music, hospitality, and community spirit, the association expressed its aspiration to create more opportunities for cultural exchange and mutual celebration.
As Pune continues to evolve as a thriving cultural mosaic, BORLUIT aims to contribute actively toward strengthening bonds between Assamese and Maharashtrian communities through greater collaboration, inclusion, and shared cultural platforms.
Looking Ahead to Rongali Bihu 2026 – Building on the momentum of this historic gathering, BORLUIT announced that its next major cultural celebration, Rongali Bihu, will be held on April 18, 2026, promising an even larger and more vibrant showcase of Assamese heritage in Pune.
