Pune, 25th April 2023: The Central Agro-Meteorological Observatory (CAgMo), located on the campus of Agricultural College in Shivajinagar, Pune, is one of the oldest meteorological observatories in India. It has been recognised by the World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) and plays a crucial role in meteorological observations in the Pune region.

Recently, a new CAgMo building has been constructed with improved infrastructure and will be inaugurated on Tuesday, 25th April 2023, at 08:30 am.

Dr. M. Ravichandran, Secretary, Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES) and Dr. M. Mohapatra, Director General of Meteorology, will inaugurate the new observatory building in the presence of Shri. K. S. Hosalikar, Head, Climate Research and Services, IMD Pune. Senior scientists and officers from MoES institutions and IMD will also attend the event.

The CAgMo was established in 1856 and has a rich legacy of meteorological observations, with a few meteorological observatories more than 200 years old included in the list of WMO centennial observatories across the globe. The observatory takes regular Agro-Meteorological, Radiation, Atmospheric Chemistry, GNSS, upper air observations (RSWR and pilot balloon) to monitor weather patterns.

With the new building, the CAgMo is expected to have improved capabilities and infrastructure for meteorological observations, which will be beneficial for the Pune region.
