Pune’s Iconic Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj Memorial at Deccan Set for Renovation

Deccan, 14th May 2026: A bhoomipujan ceremony for the renovation of the memorial of Dharmaveer Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj at Deccan Gymkhana in Pune was held on Thursday on the occasion of the 369th birth anniversary of Sambhaji Maharaj.

The renovation work of the grand memorial located in the Deccan area will now be undertaken by the authorities. The bhoomipujan ceremony was performed at the hands of Union Minister of State for Cooperation and Civil Aviation, Government of India, Murlidhar Mohol.

As part of the celebrations, Dharmaveer Sambhaji Pratishthan Pune organised a traditional birth anniversary ceremony (Palna Sohala) of Sambhaji Maharaj in the morning. The organisation also felicitated historians from Pune and institutions involved in daily worship rituals.

Speaking at the event, Mayor Manjusha Nagpure said, “The Pune Municipal Corporation will make efforts to complete the renovation work of this memorial within the next one year.”

Founder of the Pratishthan and former Deputy Mayor Sureshnana Nashikkar said, “Through this memorial, we want to further spread the work, life and thoughts of Sambhaji Maharaj to more people.”

Among those present at the ceremony were Deputy Mayor Parshuram Wadekar, local MLA Siddharth Shirole, Hemant Rasane, Standing Committee Chairman Shrinath Bhimale, corporator and President of Dharmaveer Sambhaji Pratishthan Pune Raghavendra Mankar, along with corporators Apoorva Khade, Amruta Mehre, Sunil Pandey, Nivedita Ekbote, Alpana Varpe, Prithviraj Sutar, Vishal Dhanawade, Dheeraj Ghate, Manjushri Khardekar, Mitali Sawalekar, Narayan Galande and Tejashri Pawale.

Pune Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram, civic officials, local residents and workers of the Pratishthan were also present at the event.

The programme was compered by Ramesh Pardeshi, Vice President of the Pratishthan.
