Pune, 14th May 2026: Union minister and Pune Lok Sabha MP Murlidhar Mohol has decided to use an electric vehicle and reduce the number of vehicles in his convoy to one for security purposes, following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent appeal for fuel conservation amid the ongoing global crisis and rising crude oil prices.

Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Mohol said the decision was taken in response to the Prime Minister’s call for responsible fuel usage in view of the continuing conflict-like situation in the Middle East, which has disrupted global fuel supply chains and pushed up crude oil prices internationally.

“As there has been a war or war-like situation in the Middle East for the last two months, fuel supply chains across the world have been affected and crude oil prices are rising. In this situation, the Prime Minister appealed to citizens and public representatives to reduce fuel consumption,” Mohol said.

He added that India spends a significant amount of foreign exchange on crude oil imports and reducing fuel consumption could help save valuable foreign currency. “Even today, India is viewed globally as the fastest-growing economy. For the benefit of the country, I hope citizens will support the Prime Minister’s initiative,” he said.

According to Mohol, apart from shifting to an electric vehicle for regular travel, the number of vehicles accompanying him for security purposes has also been reduced to a single vehicle as part of efforts to minimise fuel consumption.

The Prime Minister, during a recent public event in Hyderabad, had urged people to avoid unnecessary fuel consumption and foreign travel in view of the prevailing global situation arising out of the Iran-US-Israel conflict.

Mohol also appealed for collective support to the initiative, saying issues related to national interest and conservation efforts should remain above politics.
