Pune, 25th February 2024: Environmentalists and political leaders in Pune came together today to organize a seminar dedicated to the conservation of the Mula and Mutha river basin in the city. The event saw the participation of notable figures, including Shiv Sena Thackeray group leader MLA Aditya Thackeray, who not only attended the seminar but also addressed various crucial issues pertaining to the rivers.

Following the seminar, Aditya Thackeray engaged with the media, emphasizing the need for collective efforts to protect these vital water bodies.

He highlighted the alarming changes in the Mula and Mutha rivers’ conditions, flowing through the central part of Pune. Over the past few years, he noted, the riverbed has witnessed narrowing due to encroachments on both sides. Expressing concern for the city’s future, Thackeray emphasized the importance of maintaining the rivers’ original course and deepening them. He called for a united front involving environmental enthusiasts, citizens, and political parties to address this critical issue.

In his address, Thackeray criticized the current approach of the ruling party towards the riverbed, deeming it incorrect. He urged for a comprehensive presentation on the ongoing activities and advocated for an immediate halt to these works. Thackeray emphasized the necessity of collective introspection, urging stakeholders to consider whether the city is prioritizing the development of contractors and consultants from Gujarat over the welfare of Pune’s citizens.

The seminar served as a platform to raise awareness about the environmental challenges faced by the Mula and Mutha rivers and called for proactive measures to ensure their conservation.
