Pune, September 18, 2020: It is the dream of every tennis player to play the Grandslam events, it will be a dream come true for the Pune based Vaishnavi Adkar as she will step on the famed Clay courts of the Roland Garros to participate in the Junior French Open 2020(Roland Garros) wild card tournament in Paris. that will be played in Paris from October 2.

Adkar who started playing tennis at the age of 6 has had a steady growth graph doing well at the local, state and national level. Her entry to the French Open 2020 (Roland Garros) wild card tournament in Paris was a result of her winning the Roland Garros Junior Wild Card Series 2020(Under 18 category) in Delhi. A win at the Junior French Open 2020(Roland Garros) wild card tournament would ensure a wildcard in the French Open Junior Main Draw

In a year marred by the deadly pandemic, the resumption of tennis activities and the conduct of the French Open has come as big relief for the 16-year-old Adkar a student of the Abhinava Vidyalaya English Medium High school and a tennis student of Pune’s young and performing coach Kedar Shah at his Bounce Tennis Academy.

Adkar was felicitated today by the Bounce Tennis Academy along with the newly elected Jt Secretary of All India Tennis Association Sunder Iyer.

Speaking on the occasion of the Under 16 India No 1 girls Player and Current ITF junior of Ranking 675 Adkar said, “I’m pretty excited to play on the courts of Roland Garros. Representing my country at the international level has been one of my many dreams since childhood. So it’s like a dream come true for me. Along with tennis, I’ve been focusing a lot on fitness lately because it is very important for me to stay in the best shape possible to be able to do good at the international level.

Giving credit for her tennis development Adkar complimented her coach Kedar Shah saying he helps me to improve my negatives and better my positives in every possible way, which helps me to perform well in matches. My school ( Abhinava Vidyalaya English Medium High School) supports me in every possible way. It helps me to maintain a good balance between my sport and the studies. All the members of the family have played a vital role in my tennis, all the coaches I’ve played under from red balls to now which include Kedar Sir, Aniket Wakankar, and Mandar Kapshikar (First Coach) have helped me and motivated me to be a better player. I think without them I wouldn’t have been playing tennis right now and I honestly don’t know what else I would have been doing if it wasn’t for tennis.

Speaking on Vaishnavi’s progress her coach Kedar Shah said, ” Vaishnavi’s progress in tennis has been excellent. Since her early days, Vaishnavi’s game style has been aggressive. She has fluent strokes and hits the ball hard. Therefore in under 12, she did not get many results. However, along with her age and maturity and with aggressive game style, she started giving results at a high level. As international women’s tennis is more about hitting the ball and staying solid, Vaishnavi has a good future in tennis at the highest international level keeping in mind improving her physical fitness level to reach that standard ”

He added the preparation for the French Open has been good. We having been working on her fitness a lot and been practicing on clay courts. However, due to COVID situation, she cannot play any warm-up tournaments. Therefore her match sharpness will be a major concern, but Vaishnavi is a very confident player and has a good aggressive game style. She needs to be able to handle the pressure and if she can, she has a good chance of winning the Wild Card Tournament.
