Pune, 10th October 2022: The landowners of all seven impacted villages will meet on Monday for their first significant gathering since the state government stated that the proposed new Pune airport will be built at the same site in Purandar taluka. They intend to decide on the next steps in their efforts to prevent the project from taking place in their communities.

The landowners said that the conference is crucial because participation will demonstrate their existing power, which will be used to make vital decisions. “The gathering will take place on a temple’s grounds. To ensure that all villagers are aware of the same and that they don’t miss it, we have been running a campaign,’’ said a landowner.

Through all seven villages, a vehicle with a loudspeaker moving continuously informed the villagers about the conference and shouted protests against the project. Sanjay Jagtap, a Purandar Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA), will also attend the meeting on Monday.

A number of decisions will be made, including the completion of the outline for a sizable demonstration in front of the Pune district collector’s office.

“By the end of this meeting, we also want to know how many landowners support us. Before acting, we ought to be aware of our own limitations. However, we are confident that thousands of people will attend the relaunch of our campaign on Monday morning,’’ said a landowner.

Another member stated, “It has been decided that no landowner will speak to any government official coming to the region.’’

The project in the area has been opposed by Congress party MLA Jagtap from Purandar. He was the first to suggest a location change for the project, which the defense minister later rejected.

The landowner stated, “We intend to submit letters to the President of India as well, and will take legal action if compelled once more.”
