Raag-filled evening as Satyendra Singh Solanki and Shrinivas Joshi lead day three of the 71st Sawai Gandharva Bhimsen Mahotsav
Pune, 12th December 2025: The third day of the 71st Sawai Gandharva Bhimsen Mohotsav begins with a Santoor recital of Raag Vachaspati by Satyendra Singh Solanki. He performed a small aalap and then transitioned into Jod with Pakhawaj followed by Jhaala. The attractive patterns created during Jod showing Re while descending downwards in the Avaroha of the Raag. He then started a peculiar Bandish which intrigued the audience which seemingly spanned over 2 complete beat cycles of the Roopak Taal. The teental Bandish he played fascinated the audience because it started from the 15th beat of the 16 bit beat cycle of the Teental which is unconventional but played by maestros like Pandit Shivkumar Sharma. He ended his recital with Raag Mishra Pahadi. He was accompanied by Ramendra Singh Solanki on Tabla and Akhilesh Gundecha on Pakhawaj.
The second performance of the day was of Shrinivas Joshi, the son and disciple of Bharat Ratna Pandit Bhimsen Joshi. He started with Raag Puriya. The Bandish ‘Piya Gunawanta…’ was in Vilambit Ektaal. ‘Ghadiya Ginat…’ Bandish in drut Teental captured the audience with the classic Puriya charm. Then he sang Raag Suha Kanada showing perfectly the prominent decent on the Komal Ga from the Madhyam by the means of the Bandish ‘A Daata Ho…’ The performance ended with an Abhanga ‘Anuraniya Thokada…’leaving the audience in a devotional mood.
He was Accompanied by Viraj Joshi (Shrinivas’ son and the grandchild of Bharat Ratna Pandit Bhimsen Joshi), Avinash Dighe on the Harmonium, Pandurang Pawar on Tabla, Gambhir Maharaj on the Pakhawaj, Mauli Takalkar on the Tāl (bhajan chime instrument) along with Laxman Koli and Mobeen Mirajkar on the Tanpura. Anand Deshmukh anchored the Mahotsav.
