Pune, 30th April 2025: A disturbing incident of ragging has surfaced at B.J. Medical College, located within the premises of Sassoon General Hospital, Pune. A student from the orthopedics department was allegedly subjected to prolonged harassment by senior students, leading to the suspension of three individuals involved in the case.

According to Dr. Eknath Pawar, Dean of Sassoon Hospital, the matter came to light on Monday after a formal complaint was received. “I immediately reconstituted the inquiry committee the same day. The committee convened and reviewed the complaint, and we took prompt action by suspending the students named in the complaint,” Dr. Pawar told reporters.

The students have also been expelled from the hostel as part of the disciplinary action. “The investigation is still ongoing, and strict action will be taken against anyone found guilty. We are taking this matter very seriously, and no one will be spared,” Dr. Pawar added.

Sources indicated that the victim had been facing harassment from the accused students for several days, leading to mental distress.

This is not the first time B.J. Medical College has come under scrutiny, and the administration is now under pressure to ensure student safety and enforce stronger preventive mechanisms against ragging.
