Rail Passenger Fares to Increase from Today, No Hike for Trips Below 500 Km
New Delhi, 1st July June 2025: In a bid to streamline fare structures and enhance the financial sustainability of passenger services, the Ministry of Railways has announced a rationalisation of basic fares for passenger train services, effective from July 1, 2025. The changes are based on the updated Passenger Fare Table issued by the Indian Railway Conference Association (IRCA).
Key Highlights:
There will be no change in suburban single journey fares or season tickets, including those on non-suburban routes.
Ordinary Non-AC Classes (Non-Suburban Trains)
• Second Class: Increased by 0.5 paisa per kilometre with conditional slabs:
No increase for journeys up to 500 km
Rs. 5 increase for 501–1500 km
Rs. 10 increase for 1501–2500 km
Rs. 15 increase for 2501–3000 km
Sleeper Class: Increased by 0.5 paisa per kilometre
First Class: Increased by 0.5 paisa per kilometre
Mail/Express Trains (Non-AC)
• Second Class, Sleeper Class, and First Class: Increased by 1 paisa per kilometre
AC Classes (Mail/Express Trains)
• AC Chair Car, AC 3-Tier/3-Economy, AC 2-Tier, and AC First/Executive Class: Increased by 2 paisa per kilometre
The revised fare structure also applies to special and premier services such as Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Duronto, Vande Bharat, Tejas, Humsafar, Amrit Bharat, Mahamana, Gatimaan, Antyodaya, Jan Shatabdi, Yuva Express, and Vistadome/Anubhuti coaches.
Other Details:
No change in reservation charges, superfast surcharges, or other ancillary fees
GST will continue to be levied as per applicable norms
Rounding rules remain unchanged
Applicable for all tickets booked on or after July 1, 2025
Tickets issued before this date will remain valid without fare adjustment
The Ministry has instructed all Zonal Railways to ensure smooth implementation of the revised structure, including the update of fare displays at stations and ticketing systems such as PRS, UTS, and manual platforms.
