Railway Accidents in India Witness a Troubling Reversal: World of Statistics reveals

Pune, 24th July 2023: In a concerning development, the number of railway accidents in India, which had shown a steady decline over the past 23 years, has taken a disheartening turn. Data shared by the World of Statistics reveals that in the last three years, there has been a worrying increase in railway accidents across the country.
The statistics from the year 2000 to 2023 indicate a gradual improvement in railway safety. However, starting from 2020-21, a sudden surge in accidents has disrupted this promising trend. In the year 2022-23, India witnessed a total of 48 railway accidents, reflecting a sharp rise in comparison to the mere 22 accidents reported in 2020-21.
A closer look at the data indicates that the Indian Railways had made commendable progress in reducing accidents over the years. From a staggering 473 accidents in the year 2000-01, the numbers steadily declined year after year, reaching a low of 22 accidents in 2020-21.
