New Delhi, 25th February 2026: Authorities have issued an alert to railway pensioners after reports surfaced of cyber fraudsters impersonating railway officials through phone calls, SMS and WhatsApp messages to extract personal and financial information on the pretext of PPO updates, KYC verification and additional pension benefits.

Officials clarified that the Indian Railways does not send links or messages requesting updates of PPO, service records or pension-related details. They emphasized that no railway official is authorized to seek bank account information, OTPs, passwords or any confidential data through calls, text messages, social media or messaging applications.

The advisory follows instances where fraudsters allegedly contacted pensioners posing as railway personnel and attempted to obtain sensitive details by creating a sense of urgency regarding pension processing and record verification.

Pensioners have been urged to remain vigilant and avoid sharing personal or financial information with unknown callers or through unsolicited digital communication. They have also been advised to sensitise their family members, especially elderly dependents, about such fraudulent tactics.

Authorities further directed that any suspicious call, message or cyber-related fraud attempt should be immediately reported to the Police Cyber Cell and the concerned administrative office for prompt action.
