Pune, 27th May 2025: After several days of heavy rainfall across Maharashtra, including Pune, Mumbai, Solapur, and surrounding regions, the intensity of rain is expected to reduce starting Tuesday, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

IMD Meteorologist S.D. Sanap said that while the monsoon has brought widespread showers across the state, a gradual decline in rainfall is forecast in the coming days. “The Konkan region has received significant rain today. A low-pressure area has formed over the Bay of Bengal, influencing the weather patterns. However, the rain intensity will begin to taper off from tomorrow,” Sanap informed.

Orange Alerts in Ghat Areas
As of Tuesday, an orange alert was issued for the Ghat regions of Pune and Mumbai, while a red alert was sounded for parts of Kolhapur’s Ghats, indicating the likelihood of heavy to very heavy rainfall in localized areas. Sanap emphasized that this alert is only valid for the current day and conditions are expected to ease thereafter.

Agricultural Losses Reported
The heavy monsoon downpour has taken a toll on agriculture. Initial estimates suggest that nearly 34,000 hectares of farmland have been affected due to excess rain. Many farmers are now facing the challenge of re-sowing their crops.

In response, the IMD and Agriculture Department have urged farmers to delay sowing until adequate soil moisture levels are restored. “Farmers should not rush into sowing again. They should wait until the moisture is properly retained in the fields, especially in areas that have received excess rainfall,” advised Sanap.

Authorities have reiterated the importance of adhering to advisories issued by the Agriculture Department to minimize further losses and ensure optimal crop yield.
