Camp, 19th December 2023: The Pune Cantonment Board has been honored with the Raksha Mantri’s Award for Excellence – 2023 in the category of “Improvement in Cantonment General Hospital.” Notably, this marks the fourth consecutive award in this field, following the accolades in 2019, 2020, and 2021.

DGDE conveyed that the Pune Cantonment Board has been recommended for the RM’s Award for Excellence 2023, based on the commendable performance in enhancing the Cantonment General Hospital. The Cantonment Board, Pune, has set a benchmark for good governance by employing a dual strategy involving CSR funding and project implementation through the PPP Model. This approach persisted even during financial crises, leading to the creation of state-of-the-art health infrastructure and other civic amenities at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Speciality & Critical Care Hospital.

Between 2022 and October 2023, the Hospital underwent further upgrades through the Public-Private Partnership model, engaging motivated private individuals and doctors to establish capital-intensive facilities such as Cath Lab, Intensive Care Unit, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Liquid Oxygen tank, and a Modern Pathology Lab. The Cardiac Care Unit comprises a Cath Lab, a 6-bedded Coronary Care Unit (CCU), and a 10-bedded High Dependency Unit (HDU). The Board ensures affordable and accessible Cardio-Vascular health services to Cantonment Citizens at rates lower than CGHS or free under the Mahatma Jyotiba Phole Jan Arogya Yojana (MJPJAY).

The Board is also implementing the Pradhan Mantri Jan Aushadi Kendra to provide cheaper generic medicines. The Hospital is empaneled under Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Jan Arogya Yojana / Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, benefiting patients from the Cantonment area and adjoining municipal/rural areas with free dialysis, surgeries, critical care treatment at ICU/NICU, and Cardiac Care Unit.

The Hospital already boasts a fully functional Dialysis Unit, a 20-bedded ICU, and a Modular Operation Theatre Complex, developed through the financial assistance of various CSR companies and donors. Additionally, the Hospital has successfully secured CSR investment for a laparoscopy unit, Orthoscopic Instruments, ENT Microscope, Dental Instruments, and Uro Surgical instruments. The Board is in the process of further developing a 75-bedded state-of-the-art new Maternity Ward building, built and donated by the A K Abdujee Trust.

The Board expresses gratitude to the late MP Girish Bapat, President Cantonment Board, MLA Sunil Kamble, Nominated Member Sachin Mathurawala, various donors, and Corporate Sectors for their wholehearted cooperation, financial support, and allocation of grants/funds.
