Hadapsar, 11th January 2024: Tension engulfed the Ramtekdi area as a group of minor boys unleashed chaos in the early hours of Wednesday, pelting stones and vandalizing at least 22 vehicles along a 200-meter stretch from Vande Mataram Chowk to the Saibaba temple. The incident occurred between 2 am and 2:30 am, leaving residents in distress.

The unruly group targeted a mobile police van, three handcarts, and CCTV cameras at a local bakery. In addition to pelting stones at houses and passing vehicles, the vandals caused damage to 15 bikes, three autorickshaws, three cars, and a tempo, according to claims by the residents. They are now urging the police to take swift and strict action against the perpetrators, enhance patrolling efforts, and deploy personnel at crucial junctions to prevent future occurrences.

Senior inspector Sanjay Patange, in-charge of Wanowrie police station, provided details of the incident, mentioning that nine minor boys were responsible for the vandalism. Two of them, both 17 years old, have been detained, and efforts are underway to trace the remaining four who are currently on the run.

“The situation in Ramtekdi is now peaceful. We appeal to residents to maintain calm and assist us by providing information about the vandals to aid in the investigation,” said Patange. A complaint related to the vandalism has been registered under the Indian Penal Code.

According to activists, most of the minor boys involved are grappling with addiction issues, resorting to petty thefts. Their reign of terror, marked by vehicle vandalism and stone-throwing, necessitates urgent action to improve security in Ramtekdi.
