Recorded Vehicles In Pune City Are Over 33 Lakhs; Addition Of New Vehicles Continues

Pune, 28th July 2022: The fact that the number of two-wheelers and four-wheelers in the city of Pune has increased to a large extent has come out from the report of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). By the end of June, 33 lakh 24 thousand 582 vehicles have been registered in the city, and 1 lakh 70 thousand 115 new vehicles have been registered during the year (2020 to 2021). Between 2019 and 2020, 1 lakh 50 thousand 484 new vehicles were registered.

The Environment Status Report of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) for the year 2021-22 was presented by the Municipal Administration. The report is based on information received from various Municipal Departments, Pollution Control Board, IITM, PMP, Regional Transport Office, Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company and other sources. It has been concluded that the number of vehicles in the city is increasing

 

As of June 2022, 33 lakh 24 thousand 582 vehicles have been registered in the city. Compared to the year 2020, 1 lakh 70 thousand 115 new vehicles have been registered. Compared to the year 2020, there has been an increase in new vehicle registrations in 2021. Earlier, there was a decline in new vehicle registrations compared to 2018 and 2019. Of the 1 lakh 70 thousand 115 new vehicles that have increased in 2021, 1 lakh 2 thousand 953 are two-wheelers, 62 thousand 192 four-wheelers, and 4 thousand 970 are three-wheelers.

 

The report states that the month of May has the lowest number of vehicles and the month of November has the highest number of vehicles registered throughout the year. 6 thousand 219 electric vehicles have been registered in the year. Of the newly registered vehicles, 160,988 vehicles are sulfur-reducing vehicles.

 

Reportedly, smoke emitted from vehicles is a major contributor to air pollution. 80 per cent of carbon monoxide comes from vehicle exhaust. During the period of layoffs, road traffic was negligible from April to May 2020. Also, the level of air pollution was reduced as commercial and private places were closed. However, it has been reported in the report that the amount of pollution is increasing again.
