Recruitment Drive to Fill 111 Professor Vacancies Commences at Savitribai Phule Pune University
Pune, 30th December 2023: After a prolonged period of anticipation, Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) is set to initiate the recruitment process for vacant professor positions. A total of 111 full-time professor roles out of the university’s existing vacancies will be filled, with the online application process commencing on Sunday, January 1, 2024. This move is expected to bolster the academic departments of the university in the next two months.
The Department of Higher and Technical Education has granted permission to fill 111 out of 215 vacant posts in Savitribai Phule Pune University. In line with this, the university released the necessary advertisements on Saturday to facilitate the recruitment process. Alongside professor positions, the university administration will also fill some administrative posts, with advertisements for these roles set to be released shortly.
The prolonged lack of professor recruitment has left over half of the professorships vacant in various academic departments. Some departments are operating with only one or two full-time faculty members. This shortage of teaching staff has significantly impacted the academic quality of the university, influencing its overall ranking. To address this issue, the university had resorted to hiring 133 professors on a contractual basis among the sanctioned posts. The imminent recruitment of 111 professors is expected to provide much-needed relief.
