30th September 2015: Red Bull Music Academy, the vanguard of forward-thinking music worldwide, will introduce Indian fans to the sounds of cutting edge house, techno and garage manipulating producer and selector, xxxy, this October.

Punekar News's photo.Over the past couple of years, RBMA has showcased prominent producers to the Indian audience, including Kode9, who toured India earlier this year, Benjamin Damage and Hudson Mohawke in 2014, and Modeselektor in 2013. xxxy, known to his peers as Rupert Taylor, continues this exceptional run, playing in five cities – Pune, Chennai, Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore from October 24-31.

Says Taylor, aka xxxy, “I had a fantastic couple of weeks at the Red Bull Music Academy in Madrid in 2011. The lectures were so inspiring I always wanted to run out of them at the end and straight into the studios to work with my fellow participants, including India’s Jivraj Singh, who is an incredible drummer. I firmly believe that my time at the Academy changed me as person and as a musician for the better. I am really looking forward to my debut tour in India and am delighted that I was asked to come and play.”

Who is XXXY?

Born in Manchester, it wasn’t a surprise when after attending nights at Electric Chair at the Music Box and Tribal Sessions at Sankeys, xxxy veered towards making electronic music.

His debut production ‘You Always Start It’ caught the ears of not only fans but also the Red Bull Music Academy, who selected him as one of the 60 participants for the 2011 Madrid edition. Only a year later, RBMA listed xxxy as the “fourth best DJ in the world”, playing at some of the world’s foremost festivals and venues.

His modern interpretation of UK garage, classic house and techno has won him appreciation and applause from peers and critics alike. His music has been recognized and appreciated by leading international music publications including Pitchfork (which picked ‘Ordinary Things’ as its best new track upon its release), Resident Advisor, Fact, Dummy and XLR8R.

xxxy’s music has the ability to sound both classic and distinctly futuristic at the same time, and it’s that timeless quality that sets him apart from his contemporaries. Think reverberating, dubstep influenced basslines, deep techno and house productions and earworm melodies that tie it all together.

Says Jivraj Singh, aka Jiver, “At the Red Bull Music Academy, the group of 30 very quickly becomes a bunch of resonant duos and trios. Rup and I didn’t have the most contact at the Academy but I distinctly remember that I was struck by what a badass he was. Over time, that has become a very serious and important component to what I personally like to bring to the musical situations I am in. Getting the job done with purpose, precision and without undue distracting fuss – that’s how I perceived xxxy’s music and way of being. It’s going to be great to reconnect after all these years because, in an odd way, there is a nugget of Rupert in the musician I have become.”
