Bhopal : Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan has directed to pay special attention to strengthening of jails. Jammers should be installed in major jails to prevent prisoners from using mobiles. Its beginning will be made from Bhopal jail. Shri Chouhan directed to promote reformatory works in jails.

The Chief Minister was reviewing activities of Jails Department at Mantralaya here today. Home and Jails Minister Shri Babulal Gaur, Chief Secretary Shri Anthony de Sa, ACS Shri P.C. Meena, Principal Secretary Finance Shri Ashish Upadhyay, Director General Jails Shri V.K. Singh and other officers attended the meeting.

Shri Chouhan directed for further strengthening of jails so that there is no scope of hard core prisoners’ escape. Besides, strict vigilance should also be maintained against them. Reformatory works like education and skill development should be promoted in jails. Due to it, prisoners will join mainstream of life on their release. He also consented for necessary amendments in Probation Act.

It was informed that prisoners are manufacturing various types of goods. These would be sold in market under ‘Kanha Brand’. The meeting was informed that open jail is being conducted at Hoshangabad where 25 prisoners are housed with their families. Such an open jail is under construction at Satna. It was informed that 5340 prisoners were given parole during current year, while 10367 prisoners were educated. These include literates, graduates, post-graduates and MBA.
