Residents of Kalwad Complain of Contaminated Water Amid Rising GBS Cases in Pune
Lohgaon, 31st January 2025: Even as Pune battles cases of Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS), suspected to be linked to contaminated water, residents of Kalwad near Pune Airport in Lohgaon are now facing a similar threat. Locals have raised concerns over receiving dirty water with a foul odor, fearing it could lead to serious health issues.
“We have been getting murky water for the past several days. It has a strong smell, and we are afraid to use it even for household chores, let alone drinking,” said a resident. Another local added, “With reports of GBS cases linked to water contamination, the civic body should be extra cautious, but it seems they have not learned their lesson.”
Residents claim that despite repeated complaints to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), no concrete action has been taken. “Every time we complain, officials give vague assurances, but the problem persists. Are they waiting for people to fall sick before taking action?” questioned an agitated resident.
Health experts have warned that consuming contaminated water can lead to severe infections and long-term health complications. “In the wake of GBS cases, ensuring clean drinking water should be a top priority,” said a local doctor.
As fears grow among residents, they are urging the PMC to take immediate steps to rectify the issue and ensure a safe water supply before it leads to another public health crisis.
