Rivers in PCMC polluted; Corporators Slam Environment Dept

Pimpri, January 21, 2021: The environment department of Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) was under fire from all party corporators for rising pollution in the rivers flowing in Pimpri-Chinchwad. The corporators raised questions as to why despite a huge budget allocation for the cleaning of the rivers, the pollution is increasing day by day.

Similarly, the sewage water flows directly into the river. On Wednesday the environment report was presented before the general body meeting. Apparently, the report was given to the corporator late at night while some got a few hours before the meeting. Thus, it was adjourned till the next meeting.

Two engineers from the environment department were sent to Nagaland for training. However, after returning from there, these two engineers are working in other departments. PCMC Commissioner Shravan Hardikar said, “according to the old register, only one higher post is sanctioned for this department. We have sent a proposal to the State Government for sanction of a few more posts.”
